Aurora Borealis

****Edidted***** This is my favorite post of 2008 I am playing along with TIP Junkies Talk to me tuseday. Go there and tak a peek at others best post of 2008.

Last night I got a phone call from Kadie just after I had gotten all snuggled in to my bed she was coming back into town and said the northern lights were amazeing and that I should go look out the window. I thought no way would I be able to see them. I went to the window anyways and saw nothing. I then decided to look out our back window and sure enough you could see the northern lights dancing there magic. I stood there in utter Awe at the beauty I was seeing. I was amazed at the different shapes and colors that were swirling across the night sky. The Aurora Borealis kept getting lower and lower it was almost like it was right on top of my house. I decided to enter the cold night as I stepped out on to my back patio I felt the magic take over. I started dancing with the lights . I somehow felt warm engulfed in their beauty. I felt the cool wind on my skin and as I danced with the lights. I swear I could here singing a soft sweet melody. My eyes were filled with tears as I just swayed to the unknown melody. I felt so many amazeing emotions at that moment. I soon realised I was not alone I felt that William and Marie were with me. I could see there silhouettes in the darkness I believe it was Marie that I heard singing. Nothing was said we all just were just there dancing with the lights. It was very reverent and magical all at the same time. It was almost like for that moment all was right with the world. I kept taking deep breathes as if I could some how breath in the magic and keep it deep with in me. I started to shiver from the extreme cold and the lights started to shift towards my neighbors house and I new for now the magic was over. I reluctantly went back in my house got back into bed and just laid there wondering if I dreamed the whole thing.
I have heard many different legends concerning the northern lights. One being that the lights are spirits of Children playing ball . How sweet is that.. I can see how people would think that the lights are the spirits of those who have passed before them. For me it was definitely a spiritual experience.
My Question of the day.. Have you ever seen the Northern lights? My other question do you know of any of the legends associated with them?

What an amazing photo and experience! :) My first time hearing of them and seeing an image, was with the card Amber sent along with her apron in the swap you hosted. Hopefully someday I'll witness their beauty in person.

I have seen them only a few times and they are breath takingly beautiful!! I do not know any of the legends but I am sure you can google it. Sounds like you had a great expirience watching them last night. Living in Anchorage I hardly ever get to see them anymore.

G'day Jen

Jennifer,
I have seen them many times. My favorite was on the airplane. On a clear night in February landing in Anchorage from Seattle. I was in awe because usually when I see the northern lights they are mostly green. The view from the plane was all the colors of the rainbow. The thing that amazed me the most was that no one else on the plane seemed to care. The pilot didn't announce it or anything. I thought this must be really common, that was when I had only been here a year or so, I have come to learn, that is rare!! I wish I could see it again.
The legend I have heard is of Paul Bunyan, he is playing with his bull in the Artics, and thier roughousing is causeing the lights. Silly.

Thank-you. They are beautiful. I have heard a similar legend as you shared. But I have never seen them.

I have not been far enough north to see them, and not at the right time of the year to see them. But they are amazing in the pictures I see and I hope someday I will see them in person.

What a truly magical moment! What a sweet blessing to experience it!

I have never seen the northern lights in person, but I hope to someday. The only legends I know are from Brother Bear. :)
