Ok so grow up not every thing in life goes according to plan.

Last night as we were building a gingerbread house I had visions in my head of a cute house to set out and display. We were all working together and the house was looking pretty just like the picture nobody complaining until my 18 year old pipes up and says "Why dose it have to be lie the picture lets just put the candy's where ever we want".. I was like no I want to make it like the picture. Then of course my 16 year old has to chime in . "Yes I think we should do it how ever we want".
After some very immature dirty looks by me to my rebellious teenagers I said fine do what ever you all want and just walked away. I could not bare to watch as they made the house look crazy.
In the end they glopped so much junk on the roof that the roof caved in . My kids then started eating all the candy. I don't think I have ever seen a 4 year old with so much gum in there mouths before. I sat back and just watched how truly happy they all were. They were giggling and laughing and just having a fun time together.
Did I learn a lesson you might ask? Why yes I did I learned if I want a pretty gingerbread house I should by 2 kits one for me and one for them.. Then momma will have her pretty house and the kiddos can do what ever they want and then all of us will be happy.

Awe. I remember learning a lesson like that. Aren't kids cute? This year I had to remember that kids love the excitement of Christmas more then I do. I had to let my 3 older boys decorate the tree how they wanted. They had so much fun.

lol. At least they had a good time!

Personally, I'm getting a paper gingerbread house that I can just cut and it will always look pretty.

Mmmm hhmmm, I got the OCD too. We can't drag our kids down with us! lol

I'd actually buy 3. Just in case mine wasn't turning out *just right* I could start over. =)

:) Seems to be a beautiful reminder that it's not the outcome or destination that holds the value ... rather the journey.

I'm a total control freak, a perfectionist and a mother. Bad combo! Any projects I do with my kids usually turn out the same way and I act like a 2 year old! But at least THEY had fun!

You totally just reminded me about the gingerbread making kit I bought from My Girls fundraiser... And now I know to make enough gingerbread for two yummy cottages. :) Leave it to Shelly and Kadie to bring the house down. ;)

I CAN'T STAND THOSE THINGS!!! So hard!!!

I even contemplated buying the package again to do it this year and remembered what a horrible experience it is, I ended up getting sooooo frustrated bc the darn thing doesn't stand up!

OMGosh! That is hysterical. I'm just LIKE you. I have to FORCE myself to back off and let my kids have their 'way' when we do creative projects or I'll just take over. I applaud you for stepping back....it is SO hard to do! As for the house and the giggles and the fun and the gum....all well worth it, I'm sure!

I so get you. I love the idea of two, that would do it for me.

I can tell you this, my friend Angelia made her first ever gingerbread house with her family this weekend and her silly dogs (my silly dogs' sister dogs) ate it. She didn't even get a picture.

I'm so far behind online, trying to get caught up. I haven't posted since November!!!
