Recycling

Shelly my 16 year old think we as people are wasters. So we are always getting the recycling talk from her. The girl loves going to thrift stores and buying clothes and remaking them to fit her style. I am very proud of her talent and desire to do what she dose. A few months ago I saw an apron swap that the theme was Recycled. I joined knowing that I need to make an apron out of old clothing. I kept looking in the thrift stores trying to find the right thing then I remembered that I had bought a skirt for Shelly at a yard sale a few months ago that was too big for her. Well I took it out of her closet and new it would be the perfect apron..
I cut the sides at the seams sewed them up and mad i. it was simple and cute. Here is the back view of the apron. Yes a dumb pic also. but you can see how simple it was to just add the ties. The other part of the challenge was to send a shopping bag to use at the grocery store instead of using paper or plastic. So I decided to make the Bag out of one of my old tank tops. It was easy all I did was sew up the bottom and wala You have a cute shopping bag.

In yesterday's post I told you about an apron I got on Friday. I saved it for this post because it was made out of Recycled products. It's very cute and fun and flirty. Don't you think.. Now I keep looking at clothes and think Hmm that would make a cute apron.

Question of the day do you Recycle? If the answer is yes what do you Recycle?

What a great idea!!! I love all of them, but I really like the shopping bag! I recycle, paper, boxes, bottles, anything that is recyclable. By the way you looked smokin in your pictures for the ball! Love the shoes!!! Dale looked very handsome too, and the name change cracked me up too!

We should recycle more!! Thanks for the nudge to do that.
I think the aprons are very cute. I once made a blanket out of old shirts from a thrift store.

I use my own bags when I go to the grocery store and to other stores. We recycle cans, glass, and cardboard. Minot doesn't have as many recycling options as I would like though and no curbside pick up, I have to take it all. I also try to limit my use of paper products and Hannah's lunches are all in reuseable containers so we rarely use baggies of any sort. I would love to have a compost bin, that is a project I'm looking forward to starting in the future.

I am going to keep an eye out for clothing that can be reused as bags, I love your tank top idea, even my meager sewing skills could probably pull that off.

Yep, my family recycles everything from milk cartons and cans to anything paper. We try to do our part.

Oh my gooooodness! How beyond adorably FABULOUS! I love what you've done and WISH I had that talent! The tank bag...A-MAZING!

I recycle, but as far as recycling things in my house to use again, I'm not that crafty, but now you have me looking around wondering what I could use. I do let my daughter play with boxes and containers that I would normally throw out...she's SO into boxes! lol Gotta love 16 month olds. Makes me think I should just gift wrap an empty box for Christmas, but I couldn't do that. hahaha She'd love it though!

great aprons and tote! I used to be recycle queen but this area doens't do it right now due to Katrina's wrath. They just don't have it back up and running. However, I save things to use for other projects, give stuff to neighbors, anything I can to do my part.....
I use containers for lunches, make shopping/tote bags for stores, return plastic bags to W-mart (gag). I also repurpose things like you did with your apron and tote :-)

We recycle food, Tom has worms that he feeds it to that makes compost. We do cans, glass, paper, etc. We try to do as much as possbile, it sure cuts down on our garabage that is for sure. I love going to thrift shops, the idea for a tank top bag it awesome, I would never have thought of it, but love it. I also have a bin with things the kids can do projects out of and containers we can use again instead of buying more tupperware. If you get a meal from you you might get pasta, but you think it is whipped cream. :) That way they don't have to worry about returning dishes and you have extras you don't have to worry about.

Oh, you are so cute girl!! I love them! You are sooo talented! I can only sew on paper, lol! And yes, we recycle the usual - paper, plastic, etc. We actually just got new "bins" - they're huge! Bigger then our trashcans, but we can put everything together in there now.

What awesome projects! I love your tank top bag. Very cool. We recycle everything paper, plastic, aluminum. Those sorts of things. On garbage day we actually have 3x's as much recycle than garbage. It's amazing.

I recycle anything possible! I feel bad throwing anything in the trash that can be recylced. In fact sometimes when I'm out and about, if I've bought a can or bottle of soda or something I will bring the empty container home for recycling if the option isn't available where ever I am. :]

PS Love the recylced aprons and bag! :)

The Contented Housewife apron is just adorable -- so I guess that makes it French!

We recycle everything. Not by choice, I think it is annoying to have 3 gabage cans in my kitchen, but because we have to. If we don't, they won't take our garbage! We recycle straws, foil, paper, anything plastic, metal or wood! The only thing that goes in the garbage is something that can rot. I find it annoying but I know and understand why they make us do it.
I do use reusable grocery bags and carry one in my purse for my BX trips. Shelly would be so proud!

I LOVE recycling. A lot. I made a cool pillowcase into a skirt once. You better believe I pull cans out of trash bins so I can go recycle them.
