A new shoe craze..

Not sure what they are called but the work in a pinch when you cant find your shoes when it's time to walk your friend home.

They also double for making fake animal tracks in the snow.

Madeline thinks they are quite wonderful.

In the hunting world one might know them as hunting gloves.

Imperfect?

Shelly brought home several roses the other day to practice making corsages for the FFA convention next week.

I asked her where they got the roses from and she told me that a local florist donated them because they where imperfect.

Later that night I decided to take pix of the roses and while getting close up shots I started to see little scars and bruises on the petals.

I thought ok these are just little imperfections but over all this roses is stunning.

I don't know why but  when I went to bed that night kept thinking of the these imperfect roses as the florist called them.

In the morning I downloaded the pictures of the roses and came across this picture of

Ben's scared, bruised eczema hands and the imperfect scared and bruised rose.

It literally took my breath away.

I love Benny's hands they are big and strong and they feel so nice in mine I especially love kissing them.

I also love the extra time I get to spend with Ben taking care of his hands.

Yet I know the world looks at them as scared bruised and imperfect just like the florist saw the rose.

I then released why I was so bothered about the roses, because we are a society that over looks a person a piece of fruit,a drawing car,an unborn baby with defects a rose all because it's not perfect.

I am so grateful that I have people in my life that over look or don't see my imperfections.

I am grateful that I had parents who raised my to see a world of color and that every one has potential.

I am grateful That Heavenly Father gave me the opportunity to give birth to what the world calls a defected or imperfect baby but What I know to be a perfect spirit.

 I hope that every one who read this will stop and take the time to see the perfection in what others may think are imperfect.

I cant believe how fast time flies.

She wants a red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting, I guess I better get started!

Well as you can see from this picture, it's snowing in our woods. I say Boo Hiss to our lovely spring weather.

Drama Drama Drama in a good way...

Last night we went the middle school and watched Robbie preform as a kings guard in the play A lady and a Tiger.

He was a very charming kings guard and a handsome one as well.

We all enjoyed the play but I think maddeline enjoyed snuggeling with her daddy more.

I captuere this sweet pictuer of her head on his lap.

Benny loved the play too he just doesn't love getting his picture taken, So Dan the love of Kadies life tried to help by turning his head towards me so i could get this stunning shot.

Doesn't he just look so happy!

Once the play was over I just sat there for a moment and realized that my family is growing up so fast and these moments are going to be fewer and fewer.

Fabric, gift and goodie bags..

When my 3 oldest were little girls I used to make cloth goodies bags every year for there birthdays,we would fill them up with goodies and give them as party favors.

Everyone always ranted and raved about them.

I haven't made them in years.

So today when I was cleaning out my fabric stash and the birthday gift closet something clicked.  I thought hey I should make a whole bunch of  fabric bags out of my scraps and put all the little giftys in so when it's time to send a kid to a birthday party I will already have a nice wrapped gift.

So I did!

 Now I will show you all how to do this, even the no sewer can make these.

{Here's what you need}

scrap fabric

scissors

thread

sewing machine

ribbon

Velcro

Step one

First cut the fabric into the desired size you want it.

next

iron what you want the top of the bag to be a half of inch or so .( you may leave it a raw edge or fold it over twice making a clean seam.)

Now sew this seam down.

Now fold the fabric in half and sew the side and bottom seam closed.

Now you need to turn the fabric right side out.

Then your done.

Now here is two ways to keep them shut.

The easiest way for me is to tie a ribbon on the top and for fun add a little flower barrette if it's a girl if it was a bout I would probably put a yo yo or a car.

Or you can add velcro on the top seam.

I like this way best for boys.

There you have it super easy gift bags for any occasion.

 I know friends that only use them for there kids birthday gifts and there Christmas gifts year after year..

Sew Cherry polka dot cute.

Her is the polka dot inspired vintage apron I made.

I have to say I was a little nervous when I started this apron.

I new it was going to look really good or really bad.

The lace overlay pockets

and collar is what scared me the most.

But once it was done I was very pleased!

So pleased I had to make one for my self.

Now I just hope the gal I made the first one for Loves it as much as I did.

Now I think I am going to make this apron pattern in a bold modern print and see how it turns out.

Robbie at the Alaska Geographic Bee

We arrived early Friday morning.

Then we stood in line waiting to register.

He then got in his group to compete in the preliminary round.

He then answered 3 of the 8 questions right.

They were super hard by the way.

I think they were harder than the final rounds questions.

We then waited in the room until all the other groups were done.

So with nothing to do we took some silly shots

We then went to lunch, came back watched the final round then went home.

We were very proud of Robbie for making it as far as he did.

We look forward to watching him try again next year.

We are off to the State Geography B

Robbie is competing to be the state geography B winner to day.

We wish him the best of luck!

If he wins state we are off to DC to compete notionally.

We are so proud of Robbie!

Vintage aprons, and a to die for orange pie

Look at this amazing apron that Janet sent me from her ETSY store.

I just love the vintage lace and doilies she used.

You may want to know how I met Janet well she was nice enough to be the hostess for

Jennifer over  at Hope studios   teach me stuff  Tuesday she donated this apron to one lucky person(me) who  shared there something they made.

I was very shocked when I won!

Speaking of vintage aprons.

I am in the middle of making one right now.

I am really not a vintage apron making type of girl.

I normally love to make my aprons out of designer ,trendy and modern prints.

I joined an apron swap and the theme is polka dots I was very excited and had a beautiful modern print picked out. Then I got my partner who dose not like modern prints or fads, but loves vintage style and prints.

Yikes What was I going to do?

I remembered a vintage cherry blossom print that I bought a while back.

When I pulled it out I was pleasantly surprised that there where polka dot on it.

It was just perfect for what I was doing.

I am paring it with some rick rack ,lace, and putter buttons.

I am super excited to see if I can make my vision work.

Yesterday I made the yummiest orange pie.

It was so creamy and super easy to make.

I really think I am getting good a desert making.

My kids and husband are liking all my desert making too.

We just had an earthquake Yikes!

This lovely overcast morning as I was getting the last 3 kids ready for school.

The house started swaying and this dishes started clattering in the cupboard.

We all just said at about the same time earth quake.

It only lasted about 20 seconds.

There was no damage, but it was scary.

Madeline was just a little scared to go to school.

I just told her that we would pray for protection and that she would be fine at school.

I have to admit that I was just a little nervous about letting them go to school.

We get little earthquakes all the time because we live only 10 miles from the Castle mountain fault

But this time i just feel edgy for some reason.

I guess I should go and sew to get my mind off things..

Pink baby tutu love!

My darling friend Adriane had a beautiful baby girl 2 weeks ago.

I was so super excited for her and me, because that meant I could baby girl sew.

Saturday was the first day I got to meet Kassidey at her baby shower.

She was just so perfect and sweet.

This was just one of the may gifts I gave her a pink tutu.

I was so happy when her mom put it on her so I could get some pictures of her in it.

She is just so adorable sweet.

She makes me want another baby girl, or kinda makes me want to be a Grandma in a few years of course. LOL..

Snickers trifle

Shelly wanted something with snickers for her birthday so I decided to make up a trifle with snickers in it.

It was just decadent.

Easy to make too.

Here's what you need.

your favorite brownies remade

3 or 4 full size snickers bars cut into pieces.

8oz container of wiped cream

18oz package of pudding (and milk to make pudding)

camel ice cream topping.

In your dish start layering

first brownie

pudding

 wiped cream

caramel sauce drizzled

snickers.

repeat and then you are done.

refrigerate until you are ready to eat and then dig in..

A little bit of Easter fun!!

My neighborhood had an Easter egg hunt today.

It was the first annual Easter egg hunt.

My sweet neighbor Trish organized it.

She was so sweet to have basket's full of treasures for each child and she fill about 10 dozen Easter eggs with candy.

All the neighbors agreed that we need to do it every year from now on.

The kids had so much fun and it brought joy to the adults to watch the kids hunt there eggs.

The only thing that could have been better was the weather.

As you can see our kids had to wear jackets!

After the Easter egg hunt we headed back in side for Shelley's birthday celebration.

I asked Shelly what kinda cake she wanted she said I don't care something with snickers would be fine.

So I made her the yummiest snickers trifle.

I will have the recipe up tomorrow.
